1up Blog #84: Top Five Game Covers (10/02/2011)

I restricted this list to specifically my game collection. Yes, there probably are better game box-arts than those listed here, but I don’t really feel like reviewing every game-box art ever for the purposes of having a credible, but still subjective list. Some of these are included for the personal nostalgic feeling the covers give anyway. Here they are in no specific order:
1. Dragon Quest VIII

2. Metal Gear Solid 3 (Metal Gear Solid: Essential Collection)

3. Panzer Dragoon Orta

4. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Honourable Mentions:

Final Fantasy XII
It’s really too bad they had to put Vaan right smack in the middle of this cover (or on the cover at all), looking like a tool as always. Otherwise, this one would have no doubt made my list.
Halo 3 ODST
Dislike the game all you want, but it’s hard to deny it has a great cover. Given Deus Ex: HR’s cover, it seems cyberpunk can do wonders for the art department. Alas, ODST’s cover is not quite good enough to make the cut.
Though artistically a great game (and the cover demonstrates this well) I was a little disappointed with the title overall. That is ultimately enough to make it miss the cut.
I created David Sarif on Facebook. Once I realized I could make a lot of jokes with the character, I thought I could have some fun.
Will be playing Twilight Princess in the coming month. Once Skyward Sword comes out this game will be ancient, so I better get on it!
Finally got to playing the Half-Life 2 Episodes. I’m surprised how much I’m loving them. I enjoyed Half-Life 2 (review from five years ago!) but I have bad memories of spending hours on end on something like a stupidly long driving section. These episodes are fast paced and always awesome.
